Kevin Martin
Profile and Organisational Membership
My name is Kevin Martin and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist as well as being registered on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have been a practising psychotherapist since 2005.
I have a private psychotherapy and counselling practice based in Dorset at Wimborne Therapy Centre as well as in Romsey. Being at Wimborne Therapy Centre means my practice is convenient for Ferndown, Corfe Mullen, Broadstone, Blandford Forum, Verwood, West Moors, Ringwood, Poole and Bournemouth. It is also a short drive from locations in North Dorset, such as, Shaftesbury or Gillingham as well as other East Dorset towns and villages.
I can be contacted on 01202 808798 (Oracle Psychotherapy) or 07968 622585. Alternatively you can request an appointment via e-mail at kevinmartin1@live.co.uk..
I am aware that this may be the first time you are considering entering into counselling or psychotherapy and you may have a number of questions. Hopefully these will be answered as you look through this website but please get in contact if there is anything else you would like to know. Alternatively the BACP and the UKCP have excellent information about therapeutic models and information on how to find the right therapist for you.
I work with individuals and couples offering psychotherapy on an open-ended basis or for a time limited period and I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. My practice is informed by psychoanalysis, phenomenology and existential theory.

Further Information
I offer an initial consultation of up to an hour and a half. This time provides an opportunity to say something about what brings you to therapy and to get a feel for what it will be like as well as completing the initial contact requirements. It is important when starting therapy to find the right therapist for you. For this reason I always ask at the end of the initial consultation how you feel it has gone and if you would like to make another appointment. I will not be offended if you say no. All therapists work in a unique way, even when they work from the same theory model, and so you need to find the right one for you.
If you decide to work with me then you will need to commit to at least weekly therapy. We will decide at the beginning if you want to start time limited or open ended therapy or if it is better to just see how it goes. For time limited work we will decide the term; for open ended we will work until it feels right to end. Either way when starting therapy we will carry out a review around week six to explore how you feel it is going and if you still wish to continue.
It is usual to attend therapy at least once a week. This is normally on a set day and time although I realise that for some people this can be difficult due to shift work. We will have time to talk about this in the first session.
Each session is up to one hour.
As I have a practice in Dorset and Romsey there are some days when I am unavailable at Wimborne Therapy Centre. This tends to change according to need in each location so please feel free to telephone me to discuss availability. I decided to work in the field of psychotherapy as I felt I wanted to work with people who need to explore their being in the world and the choices that are there to be made for each one of us. I realise that therapy can seem expensive and difficult to fit in to a busy work / life balance. With this in mind I offer late evening and weekend appointments and would we willing to offer a 9pm or 10pm appointment time if that is what fits in with your working and life pattern.
